What mini implants can do
- Hold a loose denture firmly in place so it stops slipping when you eat, talk or laugh
- Let you bite into crunchier foods like apples and nuts again
- Usually end the need for daily denture adhesive
- Often avoid a bone graft, because they fit in thinner bone
- Replace a single small tooth in a tight space
Why they work for so many denture wearers
After teeth are lost, the jawbone slowly shrinks, which is why dentures loosen over time and why many denture wearers are told they do not have enough bone for standard implants. Mini implants are roughly half the width of a standard implant, so they can often go into that thinner bone without grafting. A small attachment on each implant clicks into the denture and holds it.
Experience matters with minis
Mini implants look simple, but success depends on choosing the right cases and placing them precisely. Dr. Lemay has placed mini implants since 2001. Earlier in his career he founded the Canadian Mini Implant Institute and taught the technique to dentists in Canada and California.
Mini or standard implants?
Minis are often the right answer for a lower denture. A standard implant is usually better for a single back tooth that takes heavy chewing, and All-on-4 is the choice if you want fixed teeth that never come out. At your consultation we look at your bone and your goals and recommend one, with the cost up front.
