Frequently asked questions
The questions patients ask us most
Straight answers to what our front desk hears on the phone every day.
New patients
Is Desert Dental Alternatives accepting new patients?
Yes. Call (760) 324-4450, or send a request through our website and the front desk will call you back during office hours to set up a time.
Can I book an appointment online?
Not directly. You can send an appointment request on our contact page and our front desk will call you to confirm a time, or call us at (760) 324-4450.
Where is the office, and how do I find it?
We are at 69450 Ramon Road, Cathedral City, CA 92234, near Date Palm Drive and Da Vall Drive. Look for the stone building with palm trees and a large white tooth sculpture out front. Dr. Lemay built the building and opened the practice here in 2002.
What are your office hours?
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
What languages do you speak?
English, Spanish and French. Dr. Lemay speaks French.
Do you see children?
Yes. Children are welcome, and you can book visits for the whole family together.
Insurance and payment
Do you accept dental insurance?
Yes, we accept PPO dental plans, including Aetna, Assurant, Cigna, Connection Dental, Delta Dental, DenteMax, Guardian, MetLife, Principal and Safeguard. Call to confirm your specific plan. Our insurance coordinator files your claims for you, and we tell you your out-of-pocket cost before treatment so there are no surprises.
Do you take HMO plans or Medi-Cal (Denti-Cal)?
No. We accept PPO dental plans only. We do not accept HMO dental plans or Medi-Cal (Denti-Cal).
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer financing through CareCredit and LendingClub. We also accept cash, checks and credit cards.
How much will my treatment cost?
It depends on what you need and on your insurance, so we do not publish prices. After your exam we give you the out-of-pocket cost up front, and if cost matters, Dr. Lemay can walk you through alternatives. Call (760) 324-4450 with questions.
Implants and reconstruction
Do you place dental implants in the office?
Yes. Implants are planned on a 3D cone beam CT scan, placed with computer-guided surgery and restored here, from a single tooth to a full arch. Bone grafts and sinus lifts are also done in-house when they are needed.
What is the difference between mini implants and regular implants?
Mini implants are narrower than standard implants. They are often used to hold a loose lower denture in place and can sometimes be placed without a bone graft when bone is thin. Standard implants are usually the stronger choice for replacing single back teeth. Dr. Lemay has placed mini implants since 2001 and will tell you which fits your case.
Do you offer All-on-4 implants?
Yes. All-on-4 treatment fixes a full arch of teeth onto four implants. It is an option for people who are missing most of their teeth in an arch or whose remaining teeth are failing.
Who will do my implant surgery?
Dr. Bruno Lemay, a Fellow in implantology of the California Implant Institute and a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, with 36 years in dentistry.
Comfort and sedation
What sedation do you offer?
Oral conscious sedation: a prescribed pill taken before your appointment that helps you feel calm and relaxed. You will need someone to drive you home. We do not offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or IV sedation.
I am very nervous about the dentist. Can you help?
Yes. Tell us when you call. You can ask for a quiet appointment, agree on a hand signal to take a break at any time, and talk to the dentist about oral conscious sedation. Many of our patients started out anxious.
Specialists
Do you do root canals here?
Yes. Our endodontist, Dr. Jason Fowler, is a root canal specialist trained at Loma Linda University, so most root canals are done in our office instead of being referred out.
Do you do wisdom teeth and other oral surgery?
Yes. Extractions, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafts, gum grafts, ridge augmentation and sinus lifts are done in-house. We use platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and dental lasers to support healing.
Emergencies
Can I be seen the same day for a dental emergency?
Whenever possible, yes. Call (760) 324-4450 as early in the day as you can and we will try to see you that day.
What do I do if I have a dental emergency after hours or on a weekend?
Call the office at (760) 324-4450 for Dr. Cho’s emergency number. Dr. Brandon Cho takes our after-hours emergency calls. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that is spreading quickly, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
